Asian games 2018 Day-9: The first Indian woman to reach the final after 1962, PV Sindhu

Jakarta: Today is the 9th day of the 18th Asian Games. On the 8th day, India got 5 silver and two bronze medals. India did not win any single gold medal on this day. If we talk about the 9th day, India has lost in badminton where Saina has been defeated by Chinese Taipei in the semi-finals. Saina got a bronze medal in the match.

In the second semifinal match of Women’s Singles, there was a fight between PV Sindhu and Akane Yamaguchi. Where PV Sindhu defeated Yamaguchi in the semi-finals and made it to the final place. Sindhu has become the first woman player to reach the final from India. After this match, PV Sindhu will now clash in the final for the gold medal.

On the score of 20-10, PV Sindhu made history by winning his final set. After 1962, no player has reached Bronze medal ahead. PV Sindhu has made such a history. This will be the first time after winning that they can get the silver medal and if they win the final, they will make a new record in the history of Indian Badminton. In the final, they will face Chinese Taipei’s, Tai Jun Ying.

Already the game itself saw a similar competition between the two. Taking advantage of his opponent’s game, Sindhu took the advantage of the score against him 8-8 and then took the lead from 13-9. World number 3 Indian player kept this edge on Yamaguchi and in the end, the first game got its name from 21-17 in 22 minutes.

In the second game, both were seen to be fighting equals. Taking advantage of his stature, however, Sindhu was trying to get the edge. Yamaguchi was responding to his every attack by shooting his Sindhu.

Silver medalist of the Rio Olympics, Sindhu took advantage of Yamaguchi’s mistakes and got a 10-6 lead against them. Here, the Japanese player came back and pressurized the Indus, taking a lead of 12-10 and defeating Sindhu 21-15 in 22 minutes to win the second game and equalize to 1-1. In the third game, Sindhu made a 9-4 lead, trying to put pressure on Yamaguchi. Keeping this edge against the Japanese player, Sindhu won the third game 21-10.

Yamaguchi has had to satisfy the bronze due to this defeat. It is his first medal in the Asian Games.
